Residential Development Manager - Maskwacis
Department: Residential Development
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans direction of department and implements yearly work plans.
- Prepares an annual budget within the financial means and restraints of the Samson Cree Nation.
- Expends funds within the budget and the department workplan.
- Ensures professional service and conduct to the members of the Samson Cree Nation.
- Supervises, evaluates, develops and disciplines all staff within the department, when necessary, in accordance with the Nipisihkopahk Employment Policy and adherence to the Canada Labour Code and Alberta Human Rights Act.
- Prepare Annual Housing Report utilizing statistics and budgeted items for Residential Development.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with other managers, specifically within the Tipahaskahn Kamik pillar.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with outside entities such as KCWS, CMHC, Indigenous Services Canada ect.
- Prepares required reports for ISC, CMHC and other funding authorities as needed to meet imperative deadlines.
- Ensure accurate Scopes of Work and contracts are approved by General Manager and/or Band Administrator.
- Cooperates with and utilizes the expert advice of the engineer.
- Coordinates major Capital projects, tenders and follow-up with the General Manager.
- Prepares monthly reports and attends all managers meetings within the pillar.
- Shall develop policies, procedures and processes in the following areas: budgets, financial accounting, financial systems, cost control, signing authorities, inspections, renovations, new housing, tenders, applications, off-reserve issues, CMHC guidelines, residential rights and occupational rights as it relates to the department, occupant movement of residence, vehicle use and fuel purchase, pest control in houses, Health Canada issues, record maintenance of houses and costs, inventory control and service delivery.
- Other related duties as tasked by the General Manager as needed.
Qualifications:
- Business Management Diploma, Journeyman Carpentry or minimum of 5 years’ experience in Carpentry
- Engineering background is an asset
- Strong leadership skills
- Experience in carpentry and with funding agencies is an asset
- Previous management experience will be an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license and own vehicle
- Knowledge and understanding of the Cree language will be an asset.
