Housing Navigator - Wetaskiwin

Reports to: Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre Coordinator (Wetaskiwin)

RESPONSIBILITIES; 

  • Create and manage housing plans, conducting intake and client assessment, facilitating referrals, offering advocacy, and building relationships with landlords and other community service providers to improve housing stability and self-sufficiency.
  • Work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability to help them establish and achieve individualized housing goals and create housing plans.
  • Provide clients with information and referrals to relevant community resources, including shelters, housing programs, and other social support services.
  • Act as a liaison and advocate for clients within various systems, such as the housing market or other social services, to ensure fair treatment and access to resources.
  • Assist clients with the logistics of securing housing, which may include finding available units, arranging property viewings, and helping with the application process.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including intake and discharge forms, and ensure adherence to agency policies and procedures.
  • Foster positive relationships with landlords, housing providers, and other community partners to expand housing options and resources for clients.
  • Provide support and de-escalation during housing-related crises or other emergent situations that may arise for clients.
  • Ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations, especially Indigenous individuals and families, with an understanding of their specific needs and challenges.
  • Ability to identify client needs and advocate effectively within complex systems to achieve positive outcomes.

Education/Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field.
  • Experience in housing support, homelessness prevention, or case management.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and empathy skills to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • Knowledge of local housing systems and supports.
  • Advocacy and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in case management, record-keeping, and documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively engage with clients and partners.
