Cultural Connector - Maskwacis

Department: Community Wellness


Responsibilities:

The Cultural Program Coordinator will work to develop programs that include:

  • Traditional teachings
  • Traditional parenting
  • Cultural Baskets
  • Elders' stories.

Connect with Elders and/or traditional resources

Develop a list of Elders and knowledge keepers, including facilitators, Elders, and Oskapewsak.

Maintain a financial record of all expenditures for reporting purposes.

Schedule cultural programs promptly that will accommodate: facilitators, seasons, venues, and clients.

Develop posters for each session and ensure they are visible to the community.

Prepare reports for presentation when required to.


Required Organizational Skills:

Maintain Oath of Confidentiality

Excellent communication skills, oral in both Cree and English, written and good with technological knowledge

Ability to provide reports when requested

Knowledge of the Cree Culture, ceremonies, values, traditions and teachings

Act as a cultural resource and support as required

Promote healing and reconciliation for youth, adults and family units.


Education:

Post-secondary education in native studies will be an asset

knowledge and experience working with youth, adults, and families in a cultural capacity

Knowledge of Cree protocol requirements
