We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and dedicated Restaurant and Bar Manager to oversee daily operations at our busy establishment. This individual will lead a talented team, manage both the dining area and bar, and uphold the high standards of service, hospitality, and efficiency that Blackjacks is known for.
The ideal candidate will also have event planning experience to successfully coordinate our frequent charity fundraisers, private functions, and special events.
Core Manager Duties
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately across the team.
- Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to staff members.
- Monitor employee performance and offer constructive feedback.
- Handle conflicts and resolve issues within the team promptly.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address concerns, and communicate updates.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and onboarding of new staff.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work culture.
- Plan, organize, and execute fundraising events, charity functions, and special gatherings in collaboration with non-profit partners.
Day-to-Day DutiesBeginning of Shift
- Check pop and liquor lines, CO2 and beer gas levels, replacing as needed.
- Conduct a liquor pull to stock wine, draft, back bar, and beer.
- Review staff schedules and hold a pre-shift meeting to assign sections and set expectations.
- Check the logbook for outstanding issues from the previous day.
- Assist bartenders with counts if discrepancies exist.
During Shift
- Greet customers and confirm daily reservations.
- Run expo line to oversee food quality and presentation.
- Communicate daily food and drink specials to servers.
- Supervise overall service, cleanliness, and atmosphere.
- Support servers on the floor, assist with restocking, and answer menu-related questions.
- Handle customer complaints and resolve issues effectively.
- Communicate with the kitchen regarding food orders, reservations, and special requests.
- Ensure stocking guidelines are followed and assign cleaning duties when slow.
- Conduct on-the-job training and monitor server performance.
- Manage liquor inventory and order requirements.
- Coordinate and prepare for events, fundraisers, and banquets (inside, outside, or upstairs).
- Provide POS support for servers and ensure accurate transactions.
- Step in to assist bartenders, servers, kitchen, or dish staff if needed.
- Address maintenance issues and coordinate repairs.
- Manage staff call-ins, no-shows, and scheduling adjustments.
- Monitor staff conduct (including cell phone use).
- Schedule server cuts as service slows.
- Process staff meals, VIP discounts, or spill write-offs.
- Oversee liquor inventory deliveries and storage.
- Ensure incident reports are completed for staff or customer injuries.
End of Shift
- Confirm all side duties are completed before staff leave.
- Assist with server cash outs and bartender counts.
- Restock liquor as needed and secure supplies.
- Ensure all tables and areas are clean and sanitized before close.
- Confirm appliances are turned off, doors are locked, and areas are secure.
- Review pop and liquor lines for next-day readiness.
- Update the Manager group chat with shift notes, including issues, reservations, staff call-ins, or schedule changes.
- Complete the logbook with detailed incident reports and shift updates.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of hospitality management experience, with a focus on restaurant and bar operations.
- Event planning experience (fundraisers, charity events, or special functions).
- ProServe Liquor Training and Reel Facts VLT Training (required).
- Video Lottery Experience is essential for this role.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities, with a strong customer service focus.
- Knowledge of food handling, preparation, and presentation techniques.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Education: Secondary School diploma (required).
- Language: English (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $20.00–$23.00 per hour (based on experience)
- Schedule: Mix of day/evening shifts, weekends, and holiday availability
