After School Care Program - Educator - Maskwacis

Department: Samson Head Start

Duties and Responsibilities:

Staff members are required to adhere to the Samson Cree Nation policies, the Aboriginal Head Start oh Reserve standards guide, Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations, and the Child Care Staff Certifications Guide for Alberta. This includes, but is not limited to, the job descriptions, organization structure, required documentation, attendance, tardiness, code of conduct, oath of confidentiality, and child safety. Please note that all policies must be observed, with these specific policies highlighted for employees within a child care environment.

● Nurture and care for children.

● Plan and create monthly developmentally appropriate activities, including Cree Culture and Language. Help children discover new interests through art, music, sports, and other hobbies.

● Foster a positive, respectful, collaborative, and participatory classroom environment.

● Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and improve the program.

● Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and supervisors.

● Assist in food preparation for program events under the supervision of the Samson Cree Nation Early Learning and Program Manager and the FNCFS IELCC Coordinator.

● Assist with cleanliness of classroom, play areas, kitchen, office, lavatories, and storage as per Hygiene Policy.

● Encourage age-appropriate recommendations to families on socialization, manners, communication, and sharing.

● Ensure children learn positive behaviors and assist in providing guidance or approved discipline.

● Keep daily records of child care and observations.

● Report concerns to the After School Care Coordinator or FNCFS-IELCC supervisor promptly.

● Greet parents/caregivers, fostering open communication about their child’s habits, behaviors, and milestones.

● Support staff and other children with program deliverables when a colleague is unavailable.

● Perform other duties as requested by the Program Manager, FNCFS IELCC Coordinator, or Senior Management.

Experience:

● A university degree in Education or Early Childhood Curriculum Studies

● ECD Level 1 certificate (minimum)

● Previous teaching or instruction experience is preferred

● Enthusiasm

● Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

● Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, ability to connect with colleagues, parents, and students of varying backgrounds.

● A commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

● Class 5 drivers license required, reliable transportation, phone for communication purposes.
