NAX Academic Coordinator

Organization: Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) Academy Location: Devon, Alberta / Black Gold School District (plus required travel) Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

The Academic Supervisor is the vital bridge between NAX Academy, the Black Gold School District, and our student-athletes. This role is dedicated to ensuring that our athletes maintain the highest standard
s of academic accountability while managing the rigorous demands of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL).

The successful candidate will act as the primary liaison for school principals and teachers, travel with teams to facilitate on-the-road learning, and lead mandatory educational seminars. You will be a relentless advocate for student success, ensuring our athletes excel just as much in the classroom as they do on the ice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Accountability & Student Support
• Monitor daily and weekly academic progress, attendance, and assignment completion for NAX student-athletes.
• Implement personalized academic intervention plans for students who are falling behind or struggling to balance their workload.
• Supervise dedicated study hall sessions, providing tutoring or study strategies as needed.
• Hold student-athletes accountable to NAX’s academic standards, ensuring education remains a top priority.

2. District Liaison & Communication
• Serve as the primary point of contact between NAX Academy and the principals, teachers, and administration of the Black Gold School District.
• Advocate for student-athletes regarding schedule conflicts, assignment extensions, or exam proctoring due to CSSHL travel.
• Conduct regular meetings with school staff to identify at-risk students and proactively address academic concerns.

3. Travel & On-the-Road Supervision
• Travel with NAX teams to away games, CSSHL showcases, and tournaments.
• Organize, mandate, and supervise on-the-road study sessions in hotels or facilities to ensure academic momentum is not lost during travel weeks.
• Enforce team rules and NAX code of conduct during academic blocks while traveling.

4. Group Education & CSSHL Compliance
• Prepare and lead group educational sessions on topics mandated by the CSSHL (e.g., Respect in Sport, mental health awareness, anti-bullying, nutrition, or digital citizenship).
• Ensure NAX remains fully compliant with all educational and player-welfare reporting required by the CSSHL.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate is requirted.
• Experience: Previous experience working with middle or high school students. Experience in a sports academy, athletic program, or with high-performance athletes is a significant asset.
• Skills: Exceptional organizational and communication skills. Ability to hold firm boundaries with students while maintaining a supportive, mentorship-based relationship.
• Mobility: Must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel frequently on evenings and weekends during the CSSHL season.
• Clearances: Must pass a vulnerable sector check and criminal record check.

Working Conditions

Hiring Date Mid August 2026.

This is not a standard 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM desk job. The Academic Coordinator role requires flexibility, including non-traditional hours, weekend travel, and adapting to the dynamic schedule of a high-performance hockey academy.

Pay: $60,000.00 per year
