Youth Care Worker ~ Full-time Probationary Position

1.0 FTE : up to 35 hours per week

Black Gold School Division is seeking a full-time Youth Care Worker to work within our Early Intervention Pre-Kindergarten Program to plan and implement a continuum of educational, social, and behavioural supports for children as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

  • Adapt and develop strategies to individual sensory and developmental profiles, prioritizing reciprocal communication.
  • Conduct systematic observations to monitor developmental milestones, identify concerns, and facilitate appropriate interventions and referrals with school and division staff.
  • Apply analytical skills to contribute to developing and implementing individualized interventions that align with developmental needs, consultant recommendations, classroom environment, evidence-based practices, and educational objectives.
  • Responsible for managing crisis situations through implementing strategies for children's behaviour, while collaborating with school staff and external agencies to develop appropriate action plans and facilitate referrals.
  • Jointly facilitate family sessions aimed at fostering connections, promoting growth, and meeting the individual needs of young people and their families, utilizing trauma-informed and strength-based strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in social work or child and youth care
  • Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta membership, or willingness to obtain
  • Experience and/or willingness to support children impacted by intergenerational trauma and developmental delays would be an asset
  • Familiarity with the developmental, education, social, and recreational needs of children and youth
  • Confidence in working with large groups
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and Positive Behavior Support training are assets

Position term: August 25, 2025 - June 26, 2026

Hours of work: Monday to Friday - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

As a condition of employment, new employees are required to provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check at their own expense (prior to starting employment).
