Seasonal Summer Parks Operators (9-11 Positions)

The Town of Devon is looking for 9-11 Seasonal Summer Parks Operators to assist with Devon’s Parks operations from May 1st through August 31st. 

Key Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school students are not eligible for this position.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary program (university, college, or trade school) and not currently attending high school.
  • Applicants must qualify for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant Program.
  • valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
  • Applicants must be able to work a compressed seven-day work week, including special event and late shifts as needed.
  • Applicants must be team-oriented and possess a positive attitude when interacting with the public.
  • Understanding of personal allergies to wasps, bees, grass, dust, or pollen is important
  • Experience operating motorized equipment and prior outdoor or parks operation experience is an asset

This is an excellent opportunity for post-secondary students seeking practical experience in parks operationsoutdoor work, and community service. Successful applicants will be mentored by senior recreation operators and will report to the Parks Lead Hand.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mowing, watering flowers, string trimming, inspections, washroom janitorial, event staffing
  • Garbage removal and recycling
  • Tree and horticultural maintenance
  • Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment safely and efficiently, as driving for work is required
  • Safe operation of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hammers, wrenches, water pumps, power tools like gas-operated leaf blowers, cordless drills, gas-powered string trimmers, roto-tillers, and push mowers
  • Daily mechanical equipment checks with knowledge of gasoline-diesel, engine oils, grease, and fluids used in standard automobiles
  • Interacting with the public and assisting at special events
  • Risk Management
  • Inspect, identify, assess, and prioritize worksite hazards as per provided forms and training, with an understanding of provincial regulations
  • Knowledge of WHMIS-controlled substances is an asset
  • Insect and pest control under mentorship

Hours of Work:

30 - 40 hours per week, Monday - Sunday
Compressed work week consisting of 4 – 8-10 hour shifts
Weekend work is required

Rate of Pay:

$15.15 - $24.10 per hour (depending on experience and related education)
