Description of duties –

Being a painter’s helper is so much more than just applying paint to a wall, painters apply paint to residential and commercial structures, but they also complete a wide range of physical, organizational, problem-solving, and creative tasks on any given day.

No two days are the same for a painter. You may start the week on an exterior painting project, and by Friday, you’re putting the finishing touches on a new construction building. Maybe it’s a messy Monday scraping and repairing walls in an older repaint, or it could be a more physical Thursday of setting up scaffolding and hauling paint through an apartment for a suite turnover.

Let’s peek into a typical day in the life of a professional painter helper:

Travel to the job site with paint, tools and other equipment.

Carefully cover and protect the flooring and furniture.

Work with the team to set up and position ladders.

Fill nail holes and repair cracks with fillers.

Sand, clean and prime the walls.

Mix paint and prepare the rollers or sprayers.

Cut in wall edging and corners with a paintbrush.

Caulk and paint the trim, moldings and woodwork.

Tape off the trim and apply coats of paint to the walls.

Clean the job site and equipment at the end of the workday.

A Painter's Helper assists in various aspects of painting projects. Responsibilities include-

• Surface Preparation- Help prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and filling gaps or cracks.
• Paint Mixing- Assist in mixing paints and other coatings according to specifications.
• Equipment Setup- Prepare and set up painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, and sprayers.
• Material Handling- Carry and move materials to and from the work area, ensuring all tools and supplies are readily available.
• Masking and Taping-  Aid in masking and taping off areas to protect surfaces not intended for painting.
• Cleanup- Maintain a clean and organized work environment by cleaning tools, brushes, and the work area at the end of each day.
• Assistance to Painters - Support painters with tasks such as holding ladders, providing tools, and following instructions.
• Safety Compliance- Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations, using protective gear and ensuring a secure work environment.
• Learn and Develop- Actively seek opportunities to learn painting techniques and skills from experienced painters for professional development.
• Team Collaboration- Work closely with the painting team, communicating effectively and contributing to a positive and productive work atmosphere.

Qualifications:

1 Minimum years’ experience in a similar role

Strong attention to detail, ability to pivot and prioritize

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

Multi-tasking to manage a large workload

Ability to contribute to a high-functioning team as well as working independently

Industry experience an asset

Additional tickets an asset

Cabinetry refinishing experience an asset

Canadian citizenship is a requirement - must already live in Edmonton or surrounding areas
