The opportunity
Leduc County is looking for highly motivated Paid on-call Firefighters to join our team. Reporting to the Paid on-call Captain/Lieutenant, this exciting opportunity provides direct services as a member of the emergency response team for fire, rescue, hazmat awareness and other incidents. Additionally, the POC Firefighter will respond to medical emergencies and provide medical support within their scope of practice. The POC Firefighter will train as required to ensure safety and competency and carry out station duties.

What you will do
- Responds to emergency incidents and attends training sessions.
- Safely reports immediately to their assigned Fire Station when pagers are activated for an emergency incident, following instructions/directives from officers.
- Responds to emergency incidents and carries out fire station duties as assigned.
- Controls fire nozzles or appliances and performs fire hose work (e.g. connecting, loading and moving).
- Working in self-contained breathing apparatus in hazardous areas.
- Working from a height.
- Operating various Fire department vehicles with required training.
- Moving, setting up and operating various pieces of emergency equipment such as generators, portable pumps, and ladders.
- Providing scene safety such as public or traffic control.
- Staffs the Communication Centre.
- Adheres to guidelines, rules, regulations, policies and procedures as outlined in Leduc County Fire Services Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
- Performs related duties as required.
What you need to succeed
Must-have
· Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers’ license.
· Successful vulnerability sector security clearance.
· Living and/or working within 19 kilometers of a Leduc County Fire Services station (Calmar, New Sarepta, Nisku or Thorsby).
· Be in good health, available to respond to emergency incidents and attend regular training and maintenance session.
· Maintain a level of physical fitness to continuously perform all duties required in this position including but not limited to excellent cardiovascular fitness, physical agility and stamina in extremely adverse conditions.
· Have the ability to lift heavy equipment/loads as needed (may be expected to carry equipment weighing 20-40 lbs. upstairs while wearing protective gear weighing at least 50 lbs. or to carry or rescue drag individuals weighing over 200 lbs.).
