Wetaskiwin Co-op is now accepting applications for the full-time permanent position of Financial Manager/ Controller working at our Administration offices, located at 4707 40th Ave in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. The Financial Manager/Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of our business.

What you’ll do: 

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Financial Manager/Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of our business. This includes ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, managing internal controls, leading budgeting and forecasting, and providing strategic financial analysis to support key business decisions. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of retail operations and a proven track record of driving financial performance. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance with all relevant financial  regulations, tax laws, and industry standards.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Administration team, supporting recruitment, onboarding, workload distribution, performance management and cross-training within the department.
  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to the senior leadership team to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the annual budget, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide financial expertise and support for strategic initiatives, including capital investments, pricing strategies, and potential mergers/acquisitions.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across the business.
  • On an as needed basis, collaborates with FCL Home Office/Zone and other Local Co-ops to ensure consistency of programs and strategies across the CRS.
  • Works effectively within the governance structure of the organization, supporting the General Manager with communicating and reporting to the Board where appropriate.

                 

Who you are: 

You are looking for a career in Finance and:

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) is required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, etc.) Experience with Oracle and JD Edwards systems considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with a significant portion in a Financial Controller or similar senior leadership capacity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • You have proven ability to lead teams through system changes and effectively administer change management processes.
  • You’re honest and trustworthy, are results-oriented and strive to be the best in what you do.
  • You believe in building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience within the retail industry and CRS is highly preferred.
