Automotive Shop Foreman

The Shop Foreman will provide guidance to junior mechanics on new tasks, will assist in the on-the -job learning of other mechanics by providing opportunities to work on new service assignments with close supervision and support. The Shop Foreman is also responsible for the inspection of work that leaves the service department.


The Shop Foreman will be required to participate in Performance Management duties, Human Resource and Health and Safety functions within the Service Department upon request. This position may also be responsible for the coverage of the Service Manager responsibilities during absences.


Responsibilities


  • Establish quality and quantity standards
  • Give advice and guidance on work procedures
  • Establish work priorities and schedules
  • Assign work to ensure continuity of workflow
  • Allocate staff to meet short-term fluctuations in work
  • Discuss work performance of subordinates with my supervisor
  • Perform work as described on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with the manufacturer and {dealership’s} standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of vehicle malfunctions and recommend/perform appropriate repairs.
  • Examine vehicle to identify necessary repair or maintenance items that may not be included on the repair order and communicate to Service Advisor or Shop Foreman.
  • Communicate with the Parts Department to obtain needed parts.
  • Notify Service Advisor or Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined on repair order is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed by the time promised.
  • Clearly and accurately document all work performed.
  • Road test vehicles as required or refer to the inspection technician as appropriate.
  • Attend and successfully complete factory training as required by the manufacturer & dealership.
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
  • Follow warranty material disposition procedures.
  • Save and tag parts of the job if requested by the customer.
  • Understand and follow federal, provincial and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Maintain the order and cleanliness of customer cars and work areas.
  • Account for all dealership-owned tools at all times.
  • Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
  • Meet all requirements of provincial and federal law dealing with automobile repair and consumer protection.


Requirements


  • Valid Automotive Licensed Mechanic Certification
  • 3-5 years as a licensed mechanic required, experience as a Foreman preferred.
  • Brand experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (proficient in English).
  • Reliable and disciplined - able to follow through on assignments.
  • Organized/able to prioritize in order to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Accuracy and detail-oriented individual.
  • Committed to achieve the very best in customer service and teamwork.
