About

More than a hospital

Wetaskiwin Health Foundation's vision is to be recognized as a provincial leader in overcoming barriers to improve health outcomes through enhancing resources for all.

The Wetaskiwin Health Foundation

was established on April 17, 1986 consisting of three original members: Clayton Monaghan, Dorothy French and Frank Dyck. In May of 1986 Reno Gauthier and Hank Colborne were added to complete the newly formed hospital Foundation. This was the first endeavour in our history to create a fundraising entity to advance healthcare in the Wetaskiwin hospital district that departed from a hospital operations board.

In its infancy,

the foundation got involved in several projects in an effort to raise funds for the building of a new hospital. This work continued until 1992 when a new hospital opened its doors in Wetaskiwin. Since that date the Foundation has continued to strive to enhance the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre.

As the Foundation grew,

several changes were made to improve its impact in the community. In 1997 the name of the Foundation was changed from the Wetaskiwin Hospital Foundation to the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation in an effort to become more inclusive in its healthcare goals. These inclusions saw education, public health and mental health become a part of the Foundation’s efforts for the first time.

Over the years many fundraisers have taken place with great support from the community.

In 2007 the Foundation switched its method to annual capital campaigns and began raising much larger sums of money. This stemmed from the addition of a CT scanner in 2015, which was a major undertaking by the Foundation. This method of large campaigns has carried forward to the present day.

Since inception,

11 million dollars has been raised and dispersed to healthcare in our community through the Foundation. These efforts have enabled important healthcare equipment to be available in our community, saving countless lives and improving the lives of countless others.

This would not be possible without the amazing donor and community support

who have stood by the Foundation for so many years. The Wetaskiwin Health Foundation has truly become a part of the community and will continue to expand and support the health needs in Wetaskiwin and area.
